THE HISTORY TO SKINNER'S WORK

In 1982, I was getting bored listening to Echo & the Bunnymen and Joy Division and wanted to explore something different. And then it came!!
A friend introduced me to the Cramps and then I went out and bought a string of 7" vinyls. This was the beginning of my warped mind into the unknown, listening to Meteors Radioactive Kid, Guana Batz - Rockin in my Coffin & The Cramps - I ain't nuthin but a Gorehound.
I have been fascinated by all 80's album covers stretching my mind with likes of Blood on the Cats, Hep Cat Hop, Batmobile's EP and anything Cramps orientated.
Being a scruffy Hepcat in the 80's and rebelling like no other at school, I soon got fed up with English and Maths and got my interest in the Art Class very quickly. (As I thought it would be a good skive!!)
I was mainly doodling on desks at school and driving my Dad crazy with sketching in the phone book whilst on the phone to my then girlfriend. (Oh, I did draw on a few rucksacks and school shirts in my spare rebellious time too!!)
Things started to change and I went to Art College and then on to Birmingham Polytechnic. I started using my dark mind on the Theatre Design course I was studying. Costume design was my favorite and this is no surprise with what I am doing now. The concept is to take 50's images and create a dark, but colourful piece. With a hint of comic gore too boot. (If needed!!)
The costume design classes helped me explore more with colour and I used to love designing my own ideas for classic Shakespeare shows such as The Tempest and comedy heroes Monty Python's Holy Grail.
I love what I do and I appreciate everyone has there own tastes. I do hope you will enjoy the work I will be doing for the future and the next life!!
I have painted all my life, but I am now wanting to share this with similar minded people. You want something painted?? Have your own one off unique piece??
